What to do after VBS? Why not try our new Drama Camp? We will be conducting a  week long drama camp in our new Music Center (formerly our Teen Center) taught by John Lariviere. John has taught /directed performing arts camps for 10 years, is a member of Actors’ Equity with nearly 20 years experience in professional theatre, and is also the South Florida Theatre Critic for Talkin’ Broadway.
This camp will feature a daily curriculum where students will perform a different 20 – 40 minute long children’s theatre piece at the end of each day. Students will learn basic theatre craft and acting techniques, and explore character development through theatre games and improvisational activities. As many of these improvisation games are based on real life scenarios with the goal of conflict resolution, students will examine how to apply themselves as Christians to the resolution of these conflicts. Camp will have craft time where students design and make assorted costume pieces and small props such as masks and crowns, a make-up & costume day, and each student will write and direct their own fairy tale.
Students are required to bring their own lunch & snacks, and dress in comfortable attire - no sandals or crocs, please. There will be a ˝ hour lunch time in the El Rio room followed by a ˝ hour outside play time (weather permitting). There will also be two 15 minute snack /bathroom breaks each day. Registration  has begun and forms are available in the Church office.  Class space is based on availability. Checks may be made out to Grace Community Church with “Drama Camp” in the memo section. Forms are also available for download here.
